About this last term Studying English

How did you like this subject at university? What about the use of blogs?

I like it pretty much, because it's different from the other subjects, i think it makes me break the routine. You know, about studying arts,  other subjects are workshops or some theoretical topics we suppose to have to understand well. When studying, I realize what I was learning was only some advices about what should I do if I want to work on art, dedicating most part of my life on that I mean. Therefore, the way I work, my methods, only belongs to me, and no one could teach me that. Teachers are suppose to guide my in this because of their experience doing more or less the same. Okay, this post isn't about that, what I want to say is that I have a good experience learning English this term.

About the blogs, I've never been used one before, sure I know them from long ago, but I never resolve to do one of them, write a bit, make some post. I do write, but I usually don't finish what I write for myself, so thats why I didn't post it on Internet too. But I think it's a good idea, it makes me memorize some vocabulary. Seriously, I was getting rusty.

What aspects of your English need to be improved and how do you plan to do this?

Most of all, I was lacking some vocabulary since long ago. As I told, writing here on the blog have helped me fair much. Besides, I'm starting reading some novels on English, I think that will help me. I have got the Bram Stoker's Dracula and the picture of Dorian Grey in English, I'm reading the first and I hope star reading the latter soon.
I already watch some movies on English (English subbed) and is some useful as well. Is really interesting how the accentuation of people change from movie to movie.
Outside the English class, how much are you using English these days? What for?

I don't speak in English. I admit I get some embarrassed when I talk in English and we just speak in Spanish in this country, so I don't do it much, about nothing. But what I do (and I did not mention it on this post before) is reading papers, interviews and several articles on English, mostly about arts or some science matters. More than be interesting news, they are useful to me, they help me get ideas for my work, this thing we can call fiction, like in a movie, but in a work of art. That's what my work is about most of the time.

My future job

- At university, what major have you taken / are you thinking of taking? Explain why.

I've taken sculpturing studies as major. It wasn't a hard decision to me. I was thinking on learning the basics on constructing an object on his environment and that inevitably lead me to sculpture. Because a work of art is a work on his space, dealing with or making a connection on it. You just have to think, where the people can see or interact with an artwork? Inside a space, I mean, the museum or a gallery, for a start, and then in the place we can name as 'abstract space' inside the subconscious of the spectator. Space is very important concept to understand and in sculpture we are just using it all the time.

- What kind of job would you like to have? Describe.

I would like to work on producing my projects onto works that I can expose. I also would like to work as a curator and make group exhibitions. I would like to know lots of artists coming from other schools and make them exhibit their works together, for example, with a concept in common. And finally make some publications about this experiences.

- What aspects would you consider  when choosing your job?

Basically it has to be a work that I would like to do. And a job that makes me think I don't wasting my time on it. I would like to have several jobs and keep studying, because I like to do it. I think I have to learn some couple more things yet.

- If you were asked in a job interview about your strengths and weaknesses, what would you say?

About weaknesses, I'm not use to be much punctual. Curiously, that doesn't happen that much to me when I have to go to a job. Because I got some nervous about being late so it makes me be more punctual. I have a strengthness too, is that when I say somebody I'm going to do something for him (in job) I put all my effort on do it. After all, that's why they would pay me for.

Sweden ran out of trash!

This is very interesting new. As you read, Sweden just ran out of his own trash because they used it to make energy. Sounds cool, isn't it? Not much for them, though. Now they have to import garbage from other countries! Sounds ironic in part, but I think is better that way. Because that means we could eliminate all the trash accumulated from decades and use it for good, and nobody likes dumps. They are too smelly and unhealthy.

What would happen if trash were that important to us in this country? People just wouln't throw away his trash, and it wouldn't exist so many illegal dumps across the country. I think we need some more time to have more recycling habits, if somehow we could organize, I just don't see why we can't reuse our garbage.

Anyway, they way Sweden use it garbage is by incinerating to produce electricity. So only 4 percent is stored in their dumps. Now they import garbage from Norway. They burn it and send it back as ashes. Norway is even paying Sweden to do that. What a deal!

Here's the link where I got the news. In the meantime I'll figure out if someday in this country we could be more like Sweden. I think we are actually acquiring more environmental friendly habits, and I want to believe we can achieve it.

Thinking green

Taking care of environment is getting popular since last 20 years. Is better this way, you know, we are talking about the place we live, and we want to live fine, nor we?
So, let's keep going with the questions:

- Where do people learn about enviromentally friendly practices?

I think the main place where people learn about environmentally friendly practices is at school. Is important to learn this practices when we are children, as the way we should live on future, to preserve the planet. But that's not all, of course. The most important to place not only this but all kind of habits is at home , we must be responsible about that.

- Have you incorporated recycling into your habits? Describe

I actually haven't completely acquired recycling habits, but I do some things. some of them I learnt it on the video about recycling posted ago (top ten tips for recycling http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjbSEIOUp4w) like re-use plastic carry bags avoiding discard them, or squash my bottles before throw them up.

- Do you use a bike or your legs instead of a car?

Sure. I prefer to walk whenever I can. I must travel to classes and is so far that I have to take the bus. I can't make it otherwise. I don't have a bike yet because my parents think it's a some dangerous. It's a bit true, but I would use it for short travels so I don't see much trouble on that, so I'll get one soon.

- Have you joined or supported any eco-organisations? Why/Why not?

I haven't joined anything. I just make the effort and haven't gather information about that. I'll search on Internet for  it I promise.

- What else have you done /would you like to do?

I would like to make compost at home, if I would have the place for it. I'm working on reduce my electric consume too.

- What have you done to reduce your carbon footprint?

Let's see. I travel on bus and avoid car rides. On vacations I'll grow a tree. There are two things. I'll make a plan to do more.

- What's missing in our society/Santiago regarding this issue?

I think it's very important to learn to separate trash, on plastic, organic, paper, etc. At least in Santiago  I don't see that happening. Other important thing is improve public transport in regions, because is not much clean. They actually use old buses that were discarded from Santiago.

Music I like

This is pretty similar to some kind of interview. I don’t talk so much about music so I’ll give it a try and let’s see what happens.

- What kind of music do you enjoy the most?

I think the music i enjoy the most are 80's. But i usually listen some electro and even sometimes some jazz and bossa. I have no real preferences in music and I’m always searching for new sounds. Most of the time it’s not so easy and requires some practice, it looks easier than it really is.

- Why do you like this kind of music?

I can’t say it completely. I feel that 80's songs have something nostalgic that I enjoy much. It must be some synth sounds we usually listen on that songs. I have to say that the songs from 80’s I really like are just a few, but synth’s sounds they have in common

- When do you listen to this music?

I use to listen music when I’m going on bus to classes. Is a very long trip, so I pass the time with my earphones on and sleeping . Sleeping makes the travel seems shorter and the music makes it less boring. When I’m back at home. Late at night, I listen music as well. At that time I use to listen new discs. I’m always searching for a new interesting sound.

- What effect does this music have on you?

This music relaxes me. It keep my mind thinking in other things so it keeps me calm. During the night it helps me sleep too.

Here are two songs i like from 80's.
